Journalists and hawkers vow to resist one Eid holiday

A representative meeting of journalists, newspaper hawkers and other newspaper employees held at the Karachi Press Club on Thursday vowed to resist the decision of the APNS for one-day Eid holiday, and constituted a joint committee.
The committee comprises Maqbool Shah, senior vice-president, All Pakistan Akbar Faroosh Federation; Mohammad Shafiq, vice-president, All Pakistan Akbar Faroosh Federation; Iqbal Noon, president, Anjuman Imdadia Akbar Faroosh; Karachi Union of Journalists (KUJ) General Secretary Javed Asghar Chaudhry and Mirza Imran Baig, general secretary, All Pakistan Newspapers Employees Confederation, Karachi Committee.
It was decided that KUJ, Apnec, Akbar Faroosh will workout the strategy to resist the move to curtail Eid holidays and will not compromise on two-day holiday on the two Eids.
Among others, Akbar Faroosh Federation President Afzal Shah, PFUJ Secretary General Mazhar Abbas, Anjuman Akbar Faroosh President Iqbal Noon, Apnec Chairman (Karachi) Zakir Ansari, Karachi Press Club (KPC) Secretary Najeeb Ahmed, Pakistan Association of Press Photographers President Shariful Hasan, and other office-bearers also attended the meeting.
The meeting backed the decision of newspaper hawkers not to distribute the newspapers if the APNS did not withdraw the decision of one holiday on Eid.
