Journalists and hawkers threaten protest in front of parliament today

Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ), All Pakistan Newspapers Employees Confederation (Apnec), Akhbar Farosh Federation, Hawkers Union, Rawalpindi-Islamabad Union of Journalists (RIUJ) and Rawalpindi-Islamabad Press Club have rejected unilateral decision of the All Pakistan Newspapers Society (APNS) regarding observing only one holiday on Eidul Fitr.
A joint action committee of these bodies vowed to observe two Eid holidays as per previous traditions. They threatened to stage a protest demonstration in front of the parliament house on Saturday at 2pm if the APNS does not restore two holidays on Eid. A protest procession would be taken out from the Press Club camp office at Melody, they added.
PFUJ president Pervez Shaukat, All Pakistan Akhbar Farosh Federation general-secretary Tika Khan and Apnec general-secretary Nasir Chishti in a joint statement resolved to continue struggle for the restoration of 18 holidays for newspaper employees and hawkers annually.
