A four-member delegation of the Pakistan Textile Exporters Association (PTEA), led by its Chairman Zahid Aslam, has returned from Northern Areas after distributing cash packets worth Rs 0.6 million among the orphans, widows and disabled victims of the earthquake.
Talking to newsman, Zahid Aslam said, from practical viewpoint we decided that it was futile to provide help to earthquake victims in kind, food or clothes, as these were abundantly available with them.
The best way to help was to give cash packets enabling them to spend according to their own priorities. He further said that the main section of victims targeted for cash assistance comprised of orphans, widows and disabled persons, as these people were unable to earn their livelihood.
To reach such persons assistance of Pak Army was sought, he said. Accordingly, cash packets of Rs 5000 each were distributed among the victims at Balakot, Garhi Habibullah and Muzaffarabad stations. In addition to cash disbursement the delegation also distributed white cloth sheets among the victims.
The other members of the delegation included Mian Muhammad Yousaf of Kausar Textile, Hamid Javed of Habib Calico and Rehan Bharara of Umer Textiles.
