LHC calls Wapda report in power supply case

21 Oct, 2006

The Lahore High Court (LHC) has called for a report from Chairman Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) in a petition filed by Chaudhry Manzoor Ahmed MNA praying to the court to direct the respondents to provide electricity to the people of his constituency in pursuance of announcement made by the Prime Minister.
The petitioner contended that the Prime Minister during his visit to district Kasur had announced to provide electricity to the area and the respondent government also allocated funds for this purpose. He submitted that the PM's orders were being implemented in other four constituencies including NA-138, 140, 141 and 142 but respondent Wapda officials were ignoring NA-139 only for being constituency of the member of opposition party.
He therefore, prayed to the court to direct the respondents to implement the Prime Minister's orders and provide electricity in the constituency. The court, after hearing petitioner's counsel at length, issued notices to the respondents and called for a report from Chairman Wapda within four weeks.
