Pakistan on Saturday alleged Indian security illegally detained and manhandled an embassy employee in New Delhi, and said it has lodged a strong protest.
Foreign ministry spokeswoman Tasnim Aslam said Indian security personnel picked up driver Mohammad Farooq on Friday afternoon in New Delhi, kept him in illegal detention for several hours, during which time he was roughed up.
"The government of Pakistan has lodged a strong protest with the Indian government over the illegal detention and manhandling of Mohammad Farooq by the Indian security personnel," the foreign ministry said in a statement.
The ministry said the "harassment of (the) Pakistani official is a violation of international conventions as well as the diplomatic norms." Tasnim Aslam said the protest was lodged to Indian authorities by the Pakistani mission in New Delhi.
