Veil: Muslim women in UK

25 Oct, 2006

Miss Azmi's refusal to remove her veil while teaching kids about eight years old in a primary school in Dewsbury - West York, UK does not reflect Muslim cultural identity in anyway. European countries have absorbed Muslim immigrants from world over, including Pakistan.
When settled these women create problems for the countries where they reside. Miss Azmi, if she feels that her cultural identity is threatened, she should pack up and return to her country of origin. Women of Azmi's type have not got themselves adjusted to the mainstream of the society where they chose to migrate.
Already the Muslim Ummah is braving the heat from the backlash where in the West Islam is tied down to extremism and fundamentalism and such instances could confirm West's opinion about Islam. Miss Azmi would be an object of stare and comments when moving on the streets of London. Imagine an Afghan woman wearing a shuttle type of Burqa or a woman wearing a Lacha - Lung-Sari working with men on line as a packer - helper in a factory.
The best bet would be to get a certificate signed from the employee at the time of hiring a Muslim woman that she would abide by the dress regulations/customs in vogue when on duty.
