President Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) Malik Muhammad Qayyum has asked the Chief Justice Pakistan to take suo motu action of the statement of President General Pervez Musharraf wherein he has mentioned that the two national politicians will not be entitled to participate in the next general elections.
While addressing a press conference, here on Saturday Malik Qayyum said that there exists no law which bars a Pakistani national from coming back to the country. He was of the view that Nawaz Sharif and Benazir Bhutto might be restrained from contesting election of Prime Minister but they could not be stopped from coming back to their homeland.
He said that it was not the job of President of Pakistan to decide who will contest the elections and who will not. He said that current year was election year which was crucial for the country. He asked the Chief Justice of Pakistan to take steps to ensure holding of fresh elections in free and transparent manner.
He also asked the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) to ensure holding of next general elections in the country in a free transparent and impartial manner.
