Leader of the Businessman Forum Senator Ilyas Ahmad Bilour on Thursday called for the establishment of big industrial units in the NWFP to arrest economic backwardness and growing poverty in the province.
Addressing an Eid Milan party held by Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) in honour of journalists here at Sarhad Chamber, Bilour said that is highly unfortunate that no industrial development is going on in the province.
He said that for the development of the province, the central government should either establish big industrial units like automobile manufacturing or provide concessional electricity to the industrial units of the province.
Senator Bilour said that export to Afghanistan was created a good opportunity for the business community of the province. However, he said due to the lack of industry it is also being occupied by the industrialists of Punjab and Sindh. He said that the Ghee units of the province was used export the commodity to Afghanistan, but it has also being discouraged after the levy of conditionalities.
Regarding World Trade Organisation (WTO) regime, he said that although developing countries had cut subsidies on agricultural products, but the developed countries are going to implement it by the end of 2010. He said that they had always raised voice for the rights of the province and would continue it in future also.
