Environmental situation in Multan is deteriorating and worsening day by day due to smoke emitting vehicles, fertilisers and chemical factories, tanneries, power looms, pesticides, insecticides and dust which caused spreading diseases like asthama, cancer, gastro-enteritis, chest infection ENT problems.
Mortality rate is increasing due to polluted water, air, noise while global warming has emerged as a big challenge for contemporary world and the developed nations should pay more attention to the issue.
Spokesman of Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) said, the earth temperature has increased due to excessive omission of carbon dioxide by the fuel used in industries, power generation and transportation. He said the ratio of carbon dioxide used to be 200 parts per million (ppm) some time back which now has risen to 4:30pm.
The developed nations have the major contribution in the excessive omission of carbon dioxide at the planet he said adding the share of United States and Canada is 23 percent of entire world.
He said there exists common will at international level to control the gradually increasing earth temperature but due to lack of resources the developing and under developed nations can not take the required steps.
It is therefore the responsibility of developed and resourceful countries first to do the needful at home and then to help the poor countries in this regard, he said.
To a question he said that Pakistan in its capacity is doing a lot in the area of environmental protection. He said that besides other measures the country is committed to achieve the millennium goals of converting ten percent of its areas into forests.
