The sowing of wheat is in full swing in Sialkot, Daska, Pasrur and Sambrial tehsils of Sialkot district and will be accomplished in second week of December. Official sources told Business Recorder here on Thursday that wheat would be sown over 0.475 million acres of land in all four tehsils of the district.
The Agriculture Department had also introduced two verities of wheat - Sahar-2006 and Shafaq-2006 for the first time in Sialkot district. As many as 55 wheat cultivators had been provided the seed of these new wheat verities in the district.
The Agriculture Department had also started training programme for the wheat growers in 1,450 villages, of which training had so for completed in 529 villages of Sialkot, Daska, Pasrur and Sambrial tehsils of the district. Under the first phase of the training programme, as many as 8,000 farmers of 529 villages had been imparted training in the district.
The training teams were providing guidance and assistance about the use of latest agricultural technologies, use of pesticides and irrigation to the wheat growers of Sialkot district enabling them to attain maximum output of the crop.
