Singapore Airlines, the world's second-biggest airline by stock market value, said on Friday that it had chosen the Rolls-Royce Trent 700 engine for the 19 Airbus A330-300s which are due for delivery by 2011.
Singapore Air said in a statement that it selected Rolls-Royce among three engine makers, but declined to name the other two manufacturers. The deal includes engine spares and maintenance.
Rolls competes with GE Aviation and United Technologies Corp unit Pratt & Whitney in the market for airliner engines. A Singapore Air spokesman said the cost for the engines was already included in the leasing costs for the new aircraft, the first of which is scheduled to be delivered to the airline in 2009.
