Number of suspected VHF patients goes up

The number of suspected patients with symptoms of dengue fever is multiplying with every passing day, as more or less 3,435 persons have so far been admitted till Tuesday evening in different hospitals.
According to the health authorities, the viral hemorrhagic fever (VHF) has taken 35 lives since it struck different parts of country, ringing alarm bells for the authorities who claim to have a vigilant eye on the situation. The government declared on Tuesday that the total number of patients tested positive for dengue virus stands at 1,178.
Out of 35 deaths, 33 cases were reported in Sindh alone while two deaths were reported in NWFP due to the fatal mosquito-borne disease of dengue fever. Although no death case has so far been reported in any hospital of Rawalpindi and Islamabad, 470 suspected patients with the symptoms of dengue fever were admitted to different hospitals in twin cities, an increase of almost 350 patients during one week. Of 470, around 179 cases have been tested positive.
