The Swiss franc was largely flat against major currencies on Wednesday as investors awaited the outcome of a close battle for the US Senate after the Democrats gained power in the House of Representatives.
The franc traded almost flat at 1.2494 per dollar after news that President George W. Bush's Republicans lost control of the House for the first time in over a decade, according to TV projections in the US midterm elections. Against the euro, the franc was near unchanged at 1.5957 per euro, hovering close to a 6-1/2-year low of 1.5983 hit on Monday.
The franc has been under constant pressure against the euro as many economists see the European Central Bank raising interest rates more aggressively than the Swiss National Bank.
