US Stocks: Friday's late afternoon trade

11 Nov, 2006

US stocks were flat on Friday as investors worried that Walt Disney Co may struggle to sustain earnings momentum, overshadowing a drop in crude oil prices and AIG's strong profit.
Even though cheaper oil helped shares of industrial conglomerates such as Caterpillar Inc, it pressured shares of big energy companies, including Exxon Mobil Corp, limiting a broader market advance. Caterpillar was up 0.5 percent at $59.51, while Exxon Mobil was down 0.6 percent at $74.13 on the New York Stock Exchange.
The Dow Jones industrial average was down 13.60 points, or 0.11 percent, at 12,089.70. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index was down just 0.26 of a point, or 0.02 percent, at 1,378.07. The Nasdaq Composite Index was up 7.83 points, or 0.33 percent, at 2,383.84.
