The United States and North Korea will hold a working-level meeting in New York next week to discuss resumption of six-party talks and US financial sanctions, a Japanese newspaper said Saturday.
Officials from the two countries will discuss the US sanctions, imposed late last year on Pyongyang for money laundering and other illicit activities, and when to resume the six-way nuclear disarmament negotiations, the Mainichi Shimbun evening newspaper said, citing US and North Korean diplomatic sources in New York.
South Korea, Japan, Russia, China and the United States have been negotiating with North Korea in the on-off six-party format for more than three years. The talks took on a new impetus after Pyongyang's October 9 nuclear test.
