The newly-elected President of Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) Raja Haq Nawaz Khan has said the Association would continue its efforts towards strengthening independence of judiciary and upholding the rule of law.
He was talking to the media here after the first meeting of the SCBA executive committee here on Saturday in the Library Hall of the Association. Thirteen office-bearers of the Association, including vice-presidents from Balochistan and Punjab were also present on the occasion.
Nawaz said the committee appreciated the steps taken by the previous body for the welfare of SCBA members and pledged to carry out the good work. He said all the members of the SCBA executive committee except four members, including vice-presidents from Sindh and NWFP, participated in the meeting. He rejected claims to boycott the meeting by some members.
The SCBA president said that two vice-presidents who did not participate had informed him in advance of their inability to come to the meeting because of their certain pre-occupations. He vowed that the SCBA would follow its own agenda without accepting any outside influence.
