Former Malaysian premier Mahathir Mohamad left hospital on Tuesday after suffering a mild heart attack last week, as family and his supporters gathered to pray for his speedy recovery.
"He has gone home. Doctors say he has to watch what he does, he has to watch his health," the 81-year-old's daughter, Marina Mahathir, said at Tuesday night's prayer session, which was attended by close family and more than 150 of his supporters.
Mahathir suffered the heart attack in the early hours of last Thursday, six months after he whipped up a political furore and launched withering, public attacks on his successor.
Marina Mahathir said her father was still unlikely to attend the three-day assembly, due to open on Wednesday, despite him being well enough to leave hospital. "The doctors would be appalled," she told Reuters.
