An exhibition dedicated to late Ustad Mohammad Latif Chughtai, winner of several prizes who devoted almost four decades of his life to the National College of Arts, will open here at one of the oldest art galleries of the city.
Ustad Latif's son Hafiz Gulrez Sadaqat will inaugurate the exhibition here at Coopera Art Gallery on November 17, Friday. Other than six prized works of late Ustad Latif, another 35 water colour paintings by Khalid Latif, student of Ustad Latif will also be a part of this exhibition, which is to continue till December 4, organisers said while talking to APP on Thursday.
Ustad Latif joined Mayo School of Arts in 1941 and continued to give his services there as visiting faculty even after retirement. He breathed his last on April 16, 1986 in Lahore.
A dedicated teacher, superb draftsman gifted with dexterity with pencil and brush, he had command over all mediums-but watercolour was his favourite, says his student Khalid Latif in a statement. "Look at nature around you, the way I see. The reflections in the ponds, the sunlight and shadows fascinate me", recollects Khalid who seems to have a sensitivity and perception for play of light in nature.
