Pak Women Welfare Association, while praising President Pervez Musharraf over passage of 'Women Protection Bill' by the National Assembly, has said it will provide relief to women rape victims.
Chairperson of the association, Qamar Shaheen said misuse of 'Hudood Ordinance' would no longer take place and police would have to operate within their limits. She said the passage of the bill was a solid step towards empowerment of women but added that more work should be done in this direction.
Hafeez-ur Rehman Chaudhry, M Hamza of Young Lawyers Association acknowledged the step taken by the government and said it was a positive development for women and the government should ensure implementation of the law in letter and spirit.
They said the 'Hudood' ordinance had created a number of problems for women and police had misused it. But now, he said, the bill would provide protection to the women.
