Another Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal member of the National Assembly Farid Paracha is expected to resign as MNA on Monday against the passage of the Women Protection Bill (WPB). Paracha from Lahore will be the fourth MNA quitting the lower house of the parliament following the controversial bill getting through the assembly on Wednesday.
MMA Spokesman Shahid Shamsi told Business Recorder on Saturday that many more MNAs would be tendering resignations in the days to come, building a momentum for a country-wide movement to send the government packing along with President General Pervez Musharraf.
He said that the MNA from Lahore would be handing over his resignation to the National Assembly Secretariat along with the reasons.
Hafiz Hussain Ahmed (Jamiat Ulema Islam-Fazl) was the first MMA lawmaker to announce resignation, immediately after the bill was passed, followed by Hanif Abbasi (Jamaat-i-Islami) and Dr Farida Ahmed Paracha of Jamiat Ulema Pakistan (Noorani). She is sister of former president of MMA the late Maulana Shah Ahmed Noorani.
