Pakistan Peoples Party chairperson Benazir Bhutto on Friday congratulated the countrymen and her party on the passage of Women Protection Bill.
For a quarter of a century, PPP had been struggling to repeal the laws discriminatory towards women, she said in a statement issued by PPP media centre here.
She said that the final repeal by the National Assembly demonstrated that this gigantic task could only be done after both the government and the opposition united on an issue of national importance despite their divergent viewpoints on other issues.
She contended that the ruling party and the opposition stood by the women in taking the step to repeal laws discriminatory towards women. She appreciated PPPP MNAs for showing unity in supporting the bill.
