US intelligence agency, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) would impart training to a special investigation team of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to check cyber crimes and boost counter terrorism capabilities of the agency; said Federal Interior Minister Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao.
Aftab Sherpao said this while talking to reporters after conclusion of a camp organised by the civil defence department here on Saturday. Secretary Interior Syed Kamal Shah, Additional Secretary Interior Qamaruz Zaman Haidri, Director General civil defence department Air Vice Marshal Ayaz Mahmood and other officials were present on the occasion.
Sherpao said that he discussed in details co-operation in war against terrorism with the US intelligence agency, FBI director general Robert S Mueller. He said that FBI would impart training and provide equipment to a Special Investigation Group (SIG) of FIA to make SIG more dynamic.
He said that Pakistan had been playing the role of a frontline ally in war on terror but some miscreants were creating disturbance in the country. "We will not let any body succeed in his nefarious designs," he added. He said that the elements behind the Peshawar and Lahore bomb blasts would be handed down severe punishment.
Responding to a question, the federal minister said that stern action would be taken against the opposition if it tried to create disturbance during by-polls. He said that the opposition had earlier threatened of tendering resignations from the Assemblies but later backed out from its words.
Earlier, addressing the ceremony, Aftab Sherpao announced Rs 200,000 grant for the civil defence department. He said that the government was committed to bring the civil defence department at par with the modern day requirements.
