Drug Enforcement Cell of Customs has seized a huge quantity of antiques valuing millions of dollars from export consignment of wooden furniture destined to Sharjah, UAE, said a press release issued here on Saturday.
As per details, the consignment comprising 376 packages stuffed in container No OOLU-567470-7 found de-stuffed containing objects of antiques packed in 23 wooden boxes and placed at rear end of the container and beneath the cartons of wooden furniture.
On thorough examination of the container 23 wooden boxes were found containing 625 pieces of antiques. The antiques were then inspected by the experts of the archaeology and museums department who have verified most of the objects to be antiques belonging to glorious heritage of Pakistan depicting various eras such pre-historic period, Indus civilisation, Gandhara civilisation, Islamic era and British period dating back to 7th millennium to 19th century An fire of the case has already been lodged.
