The Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association (PCGA) on Sunday announced seed-cotton (phutti) arrival figures in the ginneries up to November 15. According to the announcement, total 68,07,885 bales of seed-cotton arrived till November 15, 2006 in the ginneries, against 68,01,872 bales received during last year, showing an increase of 0.09 percent (6,013 bales).
PCGA Secretary Mehboob Alam said that cotton production was much better than preceding year in Punjab. Seed-cotton arrivals in Punjab ginneries amounted to 53,27,440 bales, against last year''s 50,95,787 bales, showing an increase of 2,31,653 bales (4.55 percent). However Sindh province showed a decrease 13.23 percent as arrivals amounted to 14,80,445 bales, against last year''s 17,06,685 bales (shortage of 2,56,640).
Textile mills purchased 46,73,892 bales; exporters bought 55250 bales; unsold stock is 20,78,743 bales (ginned 7,88.067 bales are lying in stock, and unginned 1290676 bales). According to the report, 1024 ginneries are functioning in the country. Of these, 822 are in Punjab and 202 in Sindh.
Fortnight flow from November 1 to 15 is 43,39,879.
