Punjab Economic Forum (PEF) on Wednesday appointed the former Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) President Mian Shafqat Ali as Chief Coordinator for joint Punjab-Jaingsu Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
The Forum, which met here at the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry, also formed a four-member bye-laws committee. It would be headed by former LCCI Vice-President Aftab Ahmad Vohra and a Study Group under the Chair of Vice President Punjab Economic Forum Jalil Malik to finalise its proposals for area of common business interest, disclosed a LCCI's spokesman.
The meeting, which was chaired by President PEF Mian Anjum Nisar and attended by the LCCI Acting President Mubasher Sheikh, Provincial Secretary Investment Saeed Alvi among others took stock of the whole situation and appreciated Chief Minister Punjab Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi for taking the initiative of formation of Joint Punjab-Jaingsu Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
The bye-laws committee comprising Aftab Ahmad Vohra, Sohail Lashari, SCCI Vice President Chaudhry Raza Munir and Mohammad Ali Mian will finalise its proposals regarding the Joint Punjab-Jaingsu Chamber of Commerce by December 31 and the same would be forwarded to the Punjab Government for its approval.
The Study Group comprising PEF Vice President Jalil Malik, Shahid Sheikh of GCCI, Hamid Malhi and Nadir Kamal Usman would prepare a study regarding industry in Punjab and Jaingsu provinces.
Speaking on the occasion, the President Punjab Economic Forum Mian Anjum Nisar said that it is a big opportunity and as well a big challenge for the industrialists of Punjab and they should utilise all their energies to cope with this challenge.
Mehboob Nasir Chaudhry, the Punjab Economic Forum Vice President, said that the formation of joint chamber would go a long way in promoting trade between Pakistan and China.
Vice President Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry Abdul Qayyum, LCCI former President Mohammad Ali Mian, Chairman PIAF Mian Abuzar Shad, President Sargodha Chamber M. Ikhlaq, LCCI E.C. member Irfan Qaiser, Vice President SCCI Chaudhry Raza Munir, Member Punjab Economic Forum Iftikhar-ul-Haq and former Member PEF Chaudhry Hamid Malhi also spoke on the occasion.
It may be mentioned that Jaingsu is the most densely populated province in China. With a total area of 102,600 sq.km, Jaingsu has a population of over 74.75 million. Jaingsu's GDP ranked the third in China, after Guangdong and Shandong, accounting for 10 percent of the nation's total.
