Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz has said that the government is committed to increase the pace of development in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata) to provide better health and education infrastructure and increase economic opportunities for the people.
The Prime Minister said this while talking to NWFP Governor Lieutenant General Ali Mohammad Jan Orakzai (Retd), who called on him at the PM's House on Friday. Shaukat Aziz said that there was vast potential in the tribal areas especially in hydel energy, mining and small and medium enterprises. He said the government was encouraging development in these sectors in order to create more employment opportunities for the people and increase their standard of living.
He said that both the private and public sectors needed to play a role in this regard. The Prime Minister said that the Women Protection Bill, which had been passed by the Senate also would improve the status of women by providing them their due rights as enjoined by our faith.
He said this was the first major step in this direction and more measures would be taken to provide additional protection to women. Every legislation introduced by the government had been and would be in accordance with the injunctions of Quran and Sunnah, he added.
Governor Orakzai briefed the Prime Minister about law and order situation in NWFP, his discussions with tribal leaders and the overall development and security situation in the province.
