Legislators to inspect Karachi pollution-hit areas

A group of five parliamentarians, including Senators Jamal Khan Laghari, Nisar A Memon, and Rukhsana Zuberi, and MNAs Asadullah Bhutto and Dr Abdul Qadir, will visit Karachi on Saturday and Sunday for sensitisation on the issues of water pollution and environmental degradation being faced in various areas of Karachi, including it coastal belt.
This visit has been arranged by 'Consumer Rights Commission of Pakistan, (CRCP), Islamabad, under the project, 'Engaging parliamentarians for environment protection', supported by Global Environment Facility (GEF)/Small Grants Program(SGP) and United Nations Development Program (UNDP).
According to the program, sea cruising in early morning has been arranged to demonstrate to the parliamentarians to what extent damage has been caused to the mangroves and the coastal belt in general. Afterwards, they will be taken to some places in the city to show them the havoc created by water pollution.
On Sunday, the parliamentarians will be given presentations on various aspects of water pollution/environmental degradation by representatives of various organisations, including CRCP, Pakistan Fisher Folk Forum, WWF, IUCN, SEPA, at WWF's Wetland Centre near Sands Spit. Afterwards, they will again be taken to some other places in the city, which are hard hit by water pollution.-PR
