Importers play an important role in country's economic stability and increasing trade with outer world, but they usually complain about lack of facilities at airports and dry ports of the country, said Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) President Dr Hasan Sarosh Akram here on Thursday.
"The government must provide facilities to importers and custom clearing agents, besides resolving their other problems at the earliest", he said while talking to the Rawalpindi Customs Collector during a meeting at Customs office.
RCCI president stressed the need for making the procedures of custom clearance easy and to provide all modern facilities at airport and dry port to help importers in clearance of their products. "A number of importers have to suffer due to complicated procedures of the custom clearing and it is need of the hour to make the procedures easy", he added.
Speaking on the occasion, Customs Collector Ahmed Dildar said the government had computerised the customs system to facilitate the business community. The government knew the importance of importers and wanted to facilitate them. The computerisation of system would make the procedures easy, he added.
He praised the role played by the RCCI in addressing the problems of business community, saying that Rawalpindi chamber worked as a bridge between government and business community. Customs Clearance Agents Association presented their problems to Collector Customs, who assured them that all their problems would be resolved soon.
