PAC moves NAB for probing into Pakistan Mint scam

Expressing its concern over financial irregularities in the purchasing of different equipment in Pakistan Mint, Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of the National Assembly has directed the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to take strict action against responsible persons.
The PAC meeting held here with Malik Allah Yar Khan in the chair has also directed NAB to dispose of all the corruption related cases in Pakistan Mint. Members of the committee during the meeting expressed their anger over the purchasing of Stamping Press Machine in Rs 52 million, which developed fault and now is not usable.
The Deburning machines were bought at the rate of Rs 6.5 million per machine while the actual price in the market is Rs 1.5 million to Rs 2 million. The higher prices were also paid in the purchasing of rerolling and polishing machines.
The PAC also expressed its annoyance over purchasing of temperature measuring devices and new machines despite the fact that installed machines were functioning in order.
The Committee also raised its objections for using the cycle stand as the storage place. Director, Pakistan Mint, who failed to satisfy the committee members informed the committee that in the past FIA investigated the financial irregularities and now NAB was conducting the investigations. The committee has directed the NAB authorities to complete the investigation at earliest against the culprits.
