Punjab Management and Professional Development Department (MPDD) Minister Sardar Hassan Akhtar Moakal has stressed the need for promoting competitiveness and productivity in the local industry.
He expressed the views during a meeting with Philip Schukat from the Programme Office for Social and Ecological Standards, Deutche Gesellschaft fur Technische Zusammenarbeit (GTZ) GmbH, Eschborn, Germany (Agency for Technical Cooperation) and Saquib Mohyuddin, Chairman National Institute for Competitiveness here on Monday, said an official.
The minister called for the promotion of corporate social responsibility in Pakistan's industry to address the challenges in today's global economy. "The National Institute for Competitiveness is undertaking a public-private partnership in collaboration with the GTZ for establishing a voluntary code of conduct for national business standards," he added.
He assured that his department would provide necessary training facilities for this purpose. He appreciated the work of the GTZ and the National Institute for Competitiveness, which focuses both on corporate responsibility and the establishment of national bodies to introduce social and ecological standards.
He expressed satisfaction over the inauguration of Corporate Social Responsibility Cells in Sialkot, Gujranwala, Karachi and Hyderabad to serve as an information and training office for the industry.
