Terming Benazir Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif most popular leaders of the country, former governor of Punjab, Malik Ghulam Mustafa Khar said that they would return soon after the announcement of the schedule of next general elections.
Expressing his views here in Central Press Club Chichawatni on Friday, leader of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) said that the government's efforts to prevent former prime ministers Nawaz Sharif and Benazir Bhutto entering into the country was not in the interest of Pakistan. The country desperately needs both the former prime ministers in the current situation, he added.
Khar said that the undemocratic policies of General Pervez Musharraf had immensely damaged the solidarity and integrity of the country and he (Pervez Musharraf) himself admitted that in his tenure, the federation had became weaken. Answering a question, he disclosed that the military dictatorship had decided to kill Nawaz Sharif but he escaped after a deal with the government.
Dispelling the impression that the statement of Pir Pagara was the part of any deal, the former governor said that by admitting that PPP had its roots among masses, he exposed the popularity of the ruling party.
