Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi has said that government wanted to equip teachers from public and private sides with the knowledge of computer sciences as no nation could be declared completely literate without having the knowledge of information technology.
While addressing the 7th convocation of the National University of Computer and Emerging Sciences (FAST) here on Saturday. The CM announced to provide primary to university level teachers with free of cost computer education in order to develop an information technology friendly generation in the province.
He said that the government has provided a lot of funds to Punjab Information Technology Board to carry out the task while the programme would cause a rapid increase in the computer usage throughout the province. He also said that the government wanted to make the province centre of information technology and they had established a multi-dimensional policy in this regard. He informed the audience that the government was developing a software technology park with an amount of Rs 2.25 billion which would provide the software engineers with an opportunity to develop tens of thousands of software's for the local and multi-national firms. The park would provide employment to at least 10,000 people while a gigantic activity of more than Rs 9 billion would annually take place there, he added.
He said the government's policies have not only increased the number of students in the schools but the government was spending billions of rupees for the establishment of the higher education sector while the Punjab Education Foundation was doing its best to develop libraries and infrastructure in the private educational institutes at the same time.
