Sherpao denies existence of Taliban Headquarters in Quetta

05 Dec, 2006

Federal Minister for Interior Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao has denied existence of Taliban headquarter in Quetta saying the law enforcement agencies have arrested over three hundred suspected Afghans in Pakistan.
He said the detained Afghans were being questioned and 250 had been handed over to the Afghan authorities. He expressed these views while talking to reporters after inaugurating computerised centre for arms license at the Ministry of Interior here on Monday.
Sherpao said that National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) would computerise arms licenses. He said the arms license would be tantamount to national identity card that would be issued within 15 days through one window operation. He said that all police stations would be computerised that would help regulate crimes.
Responding to a question, he said, that Pakistan had beefed up security on Pakistan-Afghan border urging Kabul to do more by their own to check cross border movement of terrorists. He said that crackdown against terrorists would continue on Pakistan soil. Sherpao said that probe into the Uzbek national killed in Bannu was under way and motives behind his stay in Pakistan were being scrutinised.
Responding to a question about Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) criticism on Pakistan Muslim League (PML), he termed MQM as an important ally saying they would woo the government partner in Sindh province.
