LHC restrains action against PCB

05 Dec, 2006

The Lahore High Court (LHC) has restrained the excise & taxation department from taking any coercive measures against Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for recovery of property tax of Gaddafi Stadium. The court passed these orders in a petition filed by PCB against excise & taxation department for demanding Rs 3.6 million as property tax.
The petitioner counsel Taffazul Rizvi contended that petitioner PCB did not hold lease in respect of property unit of Gaddafi stadium rather it has 40 years renewable lease in its favour and under section 3(3) of the Urban Immovable Property Tax Act, 1958, tax has to be recovered from the Punjab government.
