Fish farming plays vital role for poverty alleviation

Provincial Minister for Fisheries Sardar Dariya Khan Gopang has said that fish farming can play an important role in poverty alleviation and economic uplift of farming community, and the government is providing all possible incentives to those associated with this sector.
Addressing a meeting of the department, here on Monday, Gopang said that Punjab chief minister is showing keen interest in the promotion of fisheries sector and provision of loans to the farmers on only 2 percent mark-up. Director General Fisheries Dr Ayub said that technical assistance is also being extended to the farmers free of cost in setting up the fish farms.
Moreover, analysis of soil and water is also conducted free of any charge. He also advised farmers to approach fisheries department to acquire loans. He further said that fish farming sector is progressing @ 12 percent annually and due to the facilities provided by the government, farmers were getting motivated to fish farming. Parliamentary Secretary Fisheries Mudassir Qayum and Secretary Javed Majid also attended the meeting.
