MMA wants to strengthen democracy: NWFP chief minister

NWFP Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani has said the MMA wants strengthening of democracy in the country and every decision should be taken through parliament. This he said while inaugurating the new hall of provincial assembly here on Wednesday.
NWFP Speaker Bakht Jehan Khan, MPAs, and Peshawar District Nazim Haji Ghulam Ali were also present on the occasion. The chief minister said the empowerment of parliament is the essence of democracy and decisions of national importance should be taken through parliament.
The six parties religious alliance, he continued, wanted promotion of democracy in the country. The provincial government, he said, gives due respect to all assemblies and their august members. He said the MMA also gives due respect to leadership of all the political parties.
Akram Khan Durrani said the present assembly would be remembered for its smooth running during the last four years, adding all the MPAs belonging to both Opposition and treasury benches worked in a very cordial atmosphere.
He also lauded the role of Speaker Bakht Jehan Khan in smooth running of the provincial assembly, saying the chair's role remained neutral and Opposition members enjoyed full freedom in expressing their views during assembly's proceedings.
