'Nazims cannot recruit revenue officials'

12 Dec, 2006

The Lahore High Court (LHC), while allowing the petitions of Patwaris, has observed that Nazims are not empowered to either recruit or terminate the revenue officials. The court further observed that the respondent Nazims are even not authorised to perform such functions under the recruitment policy of the government.
The petitioners contended that they were recruited by the government in accordance with the law after adopting prescribed procedure. The respondent district Nazim Okara terminated them illegally and without lawful authority only to adjust his favourites. It was prayed to the court to declare the action of the respondent Nazim as illegal unconstitutional and without lawful authority. It was also prayed to the court to allow their petitions and set aside the orders of the respondent Nazim.
