Use of artificial jewellery is on rise in country due to increase of snatching gold jewellery incidents. Majority of women going out to attend functions used to wear artificial jewellery instead of gold jewellery fearing that they might loss their valuables on the way.
Use of artificial jewellery also registering an increase due to ever increasing gold prices in the country. President of Artificial Jewellery Association (AJA) Salim Saba said that artificial jewellery business has increased at a very fast pace since last few years.
He said that if government provides some incentives to artificial jewellery manufactures it might be further increased and create a number of jobs. He said that besides fast increasing artificial jewellery consumption in the country a very large number of people going abroad with some articles of artificial jewellery with them.
Replying to a question he said that no data is available about export of artificial jewellery. According some rough estimates artificial jewellery exports come to around Rs 25 crore to Rs 30 crore.
He suggested that the Export Development Authority (EDA) should prepare a plan to boost exports of artificial jewellery as well as tape markets for artificial jewellery. He said that Pakistan is producing world class artificial jewellery and its quality can be further improved by using latest machinery and technology.
