The average price of Bangladesh teas fell 2.76 percent to 100.42 taka ($1.44) per kg on lower demand at a weekly auction on Tuesday, brokers said.
The auction was held amid growing political tension sparked on Monday by the resignation of several advisers to the interim caretaker government, responsible for holding a fair election on January 23.
"Little over 1.42 million kg were sold at an average price of 100.42 taka per kg, down 2.86 taka from the last sale. The withdrawal percentage was 17.32," said an official at National Brokers Limited, the country's largest tea broker.
Different grades sold at between 75 and 131 taka per kg. The next weekly auction is likely to be held on December 19, with an expected offering of nearly 1.65 million kg.
