Spirit of courage to guide future generations: Soomro

Chairman Senate Mohammedmian Soomro has said that the courage, resilience and spirit of sharing and caring as demonstrated by the people during and after the tragic earthquake will continue to strengthen the nerves of our successors for a very long time.
He expressed these views while inaugurating an exhibition and auction of paintings by renowned Egyptian artist Ahmed Mubarik here. The entire income from the exhibition/auction entitled "Art for Healing", organised in collaboration with National Commission for Human Development (NCHD) will be utilised for reconstruction of a boys high school in Battal, near Mansehra.
Soomro said people responded to the natural calamity in a remarkable manner and a common bond was established from Karachi to Khyber. Not only government agencies and international organisations but also the civil society organisations, NGOs mobilised their efforts for reconstruction and rehabilitation of the quake-affected people. The media, he said, also played a positive role in projecting the cause of the affected people.
The Chairman Senate said complete rehabilitation of the devastated areas and the affected people was a gigantic task, which could not be accomplished by the government alone. He called upon all segments of society to come forward and help mitigate the sufferings of those affected by October 8, 2005 earthquake.
He lauded the efforts of NCHD and said other organisations must emulate the example set by them. The Chairman Senate especially commended the efforts of overseas Pakistanis, who donated generously for reconstruction and rehabilitation process.
