Anti-Car Lifting Cell (ACLC), Capital City Police Karachi, busted three gangs of car-jackers in January 2007, and arrested 61 car-lifters in Karachi. They also recovered 198 four-wheeler and 217 two-wheeler vehicles from their possession.
A release here on Friday said ACLC intercepted a car (V-7819) for checking at Mai Kalachi by-pass on January 1, 2007. Four criminals riding in car, identified as Abdul Rahim Abbasi, Muhammad Ramzan, Shah Nawaz and Shah Jahan, were arrested and two TT pistols were recovered from their possession.
ACLC staff on their pointation also recovered two cars and five motorcycles. Separately, a ringleader of car-lifter's gang, Munir Niazi, was held in injured condition after a shootout with police on January 8, 2007 from a workshop in limits of Khawaja Ajmer Nagri PS.
