MMA rejects Musharraf's Kashmir formula

06 Feb, 2007

Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal President Qazi Hussain Ahmed on Monday said that MMA would not attend National Assembly session till the decision of its Supreme Council in this regard. He was talking to journalists at a public rally marking the Kashmir Solidarity Day here.
He said that MMA would not attend the NA session before approval from its supreme council and decision to this effect would be taken in its next meeting. Earlier, addressing a big rally held by MMA, Shabab Milli and Islami Jamiat-e-Tulab, he rejected the options floated by President General Musharraf on Kashmir saying that the issue must be resolved according to the aspirations of the Kashmiri people.
The participants were carrying banners, placards and flags inscribed with slogans in favour of Kashmiris and freedom of Kashmir. He said that Musharraf was trying to bury Jihad and his proposals are part of conspiracies being hatched against the Kashmiris. President Musharraf took U-turn on Kashmir as he did so on the Afghan issue for following the agenda of US-India-Israel nexus, he alleged.
He said that this day reminds us the struggle of Kashmiri people when they started it for getting an independent homeland. He alleged that once again efforts are being made to put the issue of Kashmir in cold storage adding that government is following the US agenda. The US war was only against Muslim Ummah and was a cause spread of terrorism in Palestine, Afghanistan and Iraq, he opined.
Imran Khan, chairman, Pakistan Tehrik-e- Insaaf, said it is the right time to raise our voices in favour of Kashmiri people and it was necessary to understand that peace could be achieved only through justice.
Opposing the suggestions of President Musharraf on Kashmir, he said the issue could not be resolved according to his own recommendations. He claimed that Condolleezza Rice, US Secretary of State was assigned the task of recruiting puppet-rulers during her visit to the so-called moderate Islamic countries like Husni Mubarak and Hamid Karzai.
It is right time for all the opposition parties to unite at a single platform and follow the vision of Quaid-e-Azam and Allama Iqbal to defeat the rulers, he said.
Central leader of MMA, Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri said that present government has dented the Kashmir cause since it is an important dispute of the region and should be resolved according to the aspirations of Kashmiris. He said MMA would review the policy after coming into power and all decisions, which are against the national interests including Women Protection Bill would be terminated.
Others who spoke on the occasion were MNAs Mian Aslam, Hanif Abbasi, Shah Abdul Aziz and Anas Nourani, Saifullah Khalid, Syed Munawar Hasan, Sardar Ijaz Afzal, Pir Abdur Rahim Naqshbandi and Zubair Safdar.
