A suicide bomber blew himself up when he failed to detonate explosive material at VIP Lounge Islamabad airport. The incident occurred at 8.50pm on Tuesday in which two personnel of Airport Security Force (ASF) were reported dead, however, his accomplice was arrested.
According to details the terrorists who hired a white colour taxi Toyota car from Golra More reached airport and tried to enter the parking lot. When the security officials stopped the car and started its search, one of the terrorists ran towards the entry gate but due to police fire he could not reach his target.
Before the explosion the suicide bomber threw a hand grenade and sprayed bullets at security officials causing injury to some security personnel and civilians.
The airport was put on high alert and people were asked to leave the airport premises. Newsmen were also stopped to enter the airport.
The Deputy Inspector General Rawalpindi Syed Muravet Shah briefed the newsmen about the incident. The DIG confirmed the death of the suicide bomber and arrest of his accomplice.
He said suicide bomber who was trying to enter in the VIP area of the airport when stopped opened fire on security forces and tried to throw a grenade on them, which detonated in his hand when security forces returned the fire.
When asked about the identity of the bomber and his accomplice the DIG said that it too early to tell anything about it but added the matter would be made public after investigation.
The flight operation from Islamabad Airport was suspended till next order. The entire surrounding area of the airport was sealed and passengers stranded inside were allowed to leave.
According to some private television channels three persons including suicide bomber and two ASF officials have been killed in the suicide bombing attack but the DIG has denied the killing of ASF officials and said that they were injured and being provided medical aid in hospitals.
