The present government considers trade and business people as the backbone of the country's economy as they are a major source of providing employment to people.
The government accords priority to the problems of the people associated with trade and business and will do its utmost to redress their grievances, District Co-ordination Officer (DCO) Lahore Mian Mohammad Ijaz said this while addressing a corner meeting of traders here, on Thursday.
President Qaumi Tajir Itehad Sheikh Mushtaq, President Punjab Chapter Babar Butt, Chairman Punjab Mian Akbar Rasheed and other office-bearers were also present.
The DCO said that the government would consult traders' representatives for brining improvement in law and order situation and prepare a comprehensive strategy with their assistance to control crimes. He said that the government would also involve them in making a programme for price control and will hold monthly meetings at the central office of Qaumi Tajir Itehad, in this regard.
Mian Ijaz also assured them that the government would give serious consideration to their genuine demands, including construction and repair of roads in the provincial metropolis. The DCO, on this occasion, complained that the traders were not co-operating with the government for removal of encroachments.
Earlier, President Qaumi Tajir Itehad Sheikh Mushtaq, President Lahore Chapter Irfan Iqbal Shaikh and Secretary General Nazir Ahmed Chuhaan also addressed the meeting and highlighted the problems being faced by the traders' community.
