Basant festival

02 Mar, 2007

I am sorry to say that many people celebrated "Basant" in Pakistan, specially in Lahore. Young men and women flew kites and danced on the beat of the drum with full enthusiasm, ignoring all Islamic values and culture.
It is an irony of our electronic media which played a key role in the promotion of this unIslamic culture.
Some religious minded people criticised the government attitude for patronising Basant on national level, despite a court ban. Today we are celebrating Basant and Valentine Day by giving argument that Pakistanis are an entertainment starved nation, so there is nothing wrong to celebrate all these festivals. Valentine Day has come from the west and Basant is not a part of our culture. Will some one stop them from celebrating these festivals.
