The federal government is considering to acquire services of teachers from Bangladesh in a bid to overcome trained instructors' deficiency in mathematics and science subjects, official sources told Business Recorder here on Saturday.
The education minister, in a presentation to the federal cabinet, which met a couple of weeks ago, said that this step would address the shortage of quality mathematics and science teachers. The cabinet was of the view that since Bangladesh has made significant improvement in education, especially at basic level, the government should import quality teachers from there," the sources added.
The sources further said that the cabinet has also directed the ministry of education to concentrate on teachers training to improve their quality. "Since education is primarily the duty of the provinces and the federal government is responsible for curriculum, it should focus more on the neglected area of teachers training to improve their quality," the sources quoted as recommending.
The cabinet was of the view that centralised management of school education had failed and recommended that empowered School Management Councils involving local populations must be set up in every school and all funds should be utilised through such councils, the sources said.
The sources said that the cabinet also recommended the ministry to review its decision of introduction of composite examination system at secondary and higher secondary levels because there were more advantages in conducting the examinations on non-composite basis.
The cabinet also recommended that the exemption from appearing in Pakistan Studies and Islamiyat, currently available to the children of overseas Pakistanis holding dual nationality should be extended to Pakistanis living in countries that did not allow dual nationality.
