Telefonica O2 Slovakia said on February 28 that it had launched the first part of its GSM mobile network, with more than 200,000 connected users for the EU member's third mobile phone network.
The company, a unit of Telefonica O2 Czech Republic, owned by Spain's Telefonica, won a Slovak licence in August 2006, outbidding Deutsche Telekom's T-Mobile and France Telecom unit Orange.
Telefonica O2 Slovakia has said it plans to build 400 base stations by September and add another 100 by the end of the year.
