Partly Facetious: the most politic thing done

06 Mar, 2007

"Ahmedinejad is mad at Pakistan."
"With good reason - Musharraf is too closely allied with Bush and his band of merry neo-conservatives who, need I add, are setting the stage for attacking Iran. Before you say anything I know the US administration has denied it but the fact remains the case for attack seems to be following a similar pattern as was used to go to war against Saddam's Iraq."
"I agree but I don't think that's why the Iranian President is mad at us."
"Well, there was the matter of a bomb blast in Iran and they think the perpetrators came from our side of the border."
"We can't control our terrorists, can we? I mean that is the lesson learned from Waziristan and Balochistan and..."
"Though I disagree with your definition of terrorist yet I have to agree that the government has failed to quell terrorism and/or insurgency and/or public discontent against its rule."
"But from the Iranian perspective we should keep our problems to our side of the border."
"Indeed but no one can do any more. Besides, I don't think this is why the Iranian President is mad at us these days."
"So what ever is the reason?"
"We had a conference on how to defuse Iranian-US tensions and we failed to invite Iran to the talks."
"Why ever did we not invite the Iranians?"
"Bush wouldn't have invited Iran."
"Give me a break. Bush has no diplomatic relations with Iran, we do."
"Well, you know with US pressure ratcheting against us..."
"Haven't we given them Obaidullah recently - shouldn't that keep them quiet for a while."
"Yes but..."
"You can blame it on the Foreign Office...isn't that the most politic thing to do?"
"Right, protect those who will go for elections the soonest."
"Indeed but we didn't invite the Americans either."
"Give me a break."
