Prime Minister seeks list of OSDs

The Prime Minister has sought the list of Officers on Special Duty (OSD) from Establishment Division whose services are not being utilised by any department, sources told Business Recorder on Wednesday. They said as many as forty-five federal government's officers of grade 17 to 22 are in the OSD cadre.
According to the details, there is one officer of grade 22, who is OSD, four of grade 21, 16 of grade 20, 14 of grade 19, 10 of grade 18 and one of grade 17. Sources in the Establishment Division stated that Prime Minister has taken notice of the officers drawing salaries and enjoying all the benefits.
OSDs get full salary minus perks. But they continue to enjoy government accommodation, utilities, newspapers etc. They also receive medical facility.
It is pertinent to mention that the government has also facilitated the officers of grade 17 and 18 with direct dialing telephonic system without ceiling, both in office and at their residences, for which they were not entitled earlier. Previously, this facility was available only to Ministers, Parliamentary Secretaries and officers of grade 19 and above, it is learnt.
