Walid made PTCL president and chief executive

The board of directors, Pakistan Telecommunication Limited (PTCL) on Thursday appointed Walid Irshaid, a career telecom professional, as the president and chief executive officer (CEO) of PTCL to succeed Mohammad Bamakhrama, who will return to Etisalat UAE. The Board appreciated the services of Bamakhrama during his tenure in Pakistan.
Irshaid has over 25-year experience in the telecommunication and information industry. Before joining PTCL, he was president Middle East and Africa at Flag Telecom and prior to that he was director general of the Palestine Telecom Corporation (PALTEL) and managing director for the Investment Group in Beirut Developing Data & Business Communication services in Lebanon.
He was also with Emirates Telecommunication Corporation-Etisalat for more than 16 years where he was responsible for the development and deployment of a variety of major initiatives and key services such as cellular, data, value-added services and multimedia. Irshaid is no stranger to Pakistan as he holds a Bachelor of Electronics Engineering degree from NED University of Engineering and Technology Karachi.
In the meantime, Pakistan Telecommunication Limited (PTCL) has transferred general manager Javed Qureshi as chief engineer Access Network (Coordination) while Zafarullah Khan Marwat previously working as Chief Engineer Access Network (Coordination) has been transferred and posted as General Manager Access Network Maintenance Karachi. According to PTCL release issued here Thursday, both the officers assumed the charge of their respective posts on March 8.
